Empfehlung - languagetool & libretranslate

CPU only.

I have found two very nice tools that are extremely practical, especially in interaction. One of the two is also running in the background right now. Both tools can be hosted on your own hardware and there are scripts in the community scripts. LanguageTool seems to finance itself through a subscription model, but you can also host the software yourself, then it costs nothing. It is used to correct texts relating to orthography and punctuation marks. As I have seen so far, LanguageTool only provides an API. But the cool thing is that there are plugins for all kinds of software to retrofit LanguageTool. As I write the article, the LT plugin for Chrome monitors each browser window with text input. Exceptions can be set in the plugin. You only have to specify the IP address of the local API instance in the plugin. I ignored the warning with the professionals and it still worked 😂 That was it already. In the work use like LibreOffice Writer, also for this there is a LT plugin. The plugin in LibreOffice still makes me a few problems. I suspect it is due to the installation of LibreOffice via Flatpak (Sandbox). In the work, everything runs on macOS, so I will test the plugin again. I will add to the article as soon as I know more about this plugin for LibreOffice.

The other tool is called LibreTranslate and the name already says what it does. In our work, we often deal with customers who speak all kinds of languages. In terms of data protection, Google Translate & Co. has not been an option so far, with this tool there are no such problems. Funnily enough, LanguageTool also controls the input at LibreTranslate, so both complement each other excellently. I have translated the above text (without pictures) into several languages. Since local AI is used here, this LXC benefits in particular from a GPU that is as potent as possible. In my case, this runs on an onboard GPU
